This pH ring increases the pH of the filtered water by 1 - 1.5 points. This makes the water slightly alkaline.
The ring will be on the bottom of the lower tank. It is an additional addition but otherwise has nothing to do with the filtering process.

The contents of the pH ring consist of: Magnetite balls, zeolite balls, tourmaline balls, alkaline balls and magnesium balls.
